With Halloween right around the corner, it’s typical for websites to choose rankings like “the most popular candy bar by state or most haunted places in America.”

But this year, it’s a little different.

Thrillist.com went though each state, describing what makes the perfect costume and why.

In Arizona, some imagined a desert-themed costume. But Thrillist went a different route.

Freddy Krueger
His skin is leathery and scorched. He rocks a sun hat. He keeps a sensibly-colored sweater on (for nighttime temperature fluctuations), and honestly, a knife-glove is really the only viable option to trim loose cacti. It just makes sense.

Instead of incorporating the surroundings of Arizona into a costume, they went a step further, explaining why Freddy is such a “perfect” fit for the desert.

It may not be the best representation of the copper state, but a knife-glove would come in handy out on the golf course or if you’re caught between a cactus and a hard place.

Other costumes include: Sad Jordan memes for North Carolina, Kevin Durant for Oklahoma, Willie Nelson for Colorado, a sexy potato in Idaho, voting machines in New Hampshire and Senator Kid Rock in Michigan.
