Arizona tourism, like the economy, may be on the mend, but it still has a long way to go.
According to thatPhoenix Business Journal, Arizona tourism generated $18.3 billion in 2011.
The 2011 figure was higher than 2010, marking the second consecutive year that tourism dollars have been on the rise in Arizona. However, last year’s number was still shy of the $18.8 billion generated in 2007.
“Yes, we had a better year, but we need to keep this momentum going,” AOT Director Sherry Henry said during her presentation at the Biltmore.
Arizona had about 37.6 million overnight visitors in 2011, a 2.9 increase from 2010.
There are about 157,000 jobs in Arizona that are the direct result of tourism.
