Arizona Sports 620 broadcaster has a chat with Obama

It's not every day you can talk baseball with the leader of the free world.

It’s not every day you can talk baseball with the leader of the free world.

Diamondbacks broadcaster Jeff Munn spent a few minutes chatting with President Barack Obama over lunch at Skyline Chili in Cincinnati.

“A Secret Service agent approached me and said that he needed to screen me with a wand,” Munn said. “At that point I thought it was [radio color commentator Tom Candiotti] playing a prank.”

But laugher turned to anxiety when the agent told him to “stay put” and he saw a number of police cars outside the restaurant.

“I thought something was wrong, like a bomb threat,” Munn said. “Then five minutes later, the president walked in and said ‘I heard this is a place to get good chili.'”

The president then made the rounds, talking with diners and workers inside.

“I told him I was a Diamondbacks broadcaster and he said ‘Of course you are, I can tell by the voice,'” Munn said. “He then said he was a White Sox fan and doesn’t follow the National League very much and asked how [the team] was going.

“When I told him we were just swept by the Cubs, he laughed and said ‘That’s too bad. I feel bad for you guys,'” Munn said.

The two then chatted briefly about politics and snapped a photo before the president left.

“It was quite an experience,” Munn said.
