Arizona Snowbowl to add new restaurant near Sunset chairlift

PHOENIX — Arizona Snowbowl, a ski resort in northern Arizona near Flagstaff, announced it will add a restaurant, restrooms and a patio near its Sunset chairlift.

The addition is part of a series of construction projects and renovations that have been taking place at Snowbowl since at least the resort’s sale in 2014. Part of those changes included adding a new chairlift, the Grand Canyon Express.

Snowbowl said its new restaurant, which won’t be far from the Grand Canyon Express, will double the dining capacity of the base area.

It will seat 300 people and feature barbecue and Mexican food.

There are also two other ongoing construction projects: the addition of a pedestrian bridge over Snowbowl Road from the Hart Prairie Lodge to the Sunset chairlift base area; and the construction of a new Hart Prairie lift, which will replace the old lift of the same name.

“[The bridge] eliminates the crosswalk for the skiers to walk across the street to get over to the new Grand Canyon Express,” said J.R. Murray, general manager of Arizona Snowbowl. “That bridge will provide safe and efficient movement from the Hart Prairie lodge.”

“And [it will] enhance the base area where we get some more real estate there and create a beach environment with fire pits and lawn chairs and things like that.”

The new quad lift will carry approximately 1800 people per hour, twice as much as the old lift. The chairs will have padded seats, restraining bars and footrests.

Snowbowl is approximately 25 minutes by car from downtown Flagstaff.
