‘America’s Got Talent’ to give Arizonans once-over at first Phoenix auditions

PHOENIX — Valley hopefuls are waiting in line Thursday at the Phoenix Convention Center, hoping to score a spot as a contestant on NBC’s popular, “America’s Got Talent.”

Connor Danks, of Wickenburg, says he’s here to try to make a living off of what he loves doing.

“I love playing anything and everything. Rock, blues, country, reggae, pop, jazz and swing. Anything but polka, I guess,” he said.

This isn’t his first time auditioning for “America’s Got Talent.” He did it three years ago in California.

Danks said though you get 90 seconds to prove yourself, “you should be able to prove yourself in the first 30 seconds. Honestly.”

Tessa Ladig, from Phoenix, is an aspiring singer and will also try out for the judges.

“My goal is just to make it through to the next round, honestly,” she said.

“I love music and just hope I get a yes. But this makes me really nervous and it’s a big step for me.”

Auditions will be held from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. It’s the first time tryouts have been held in the Valley.
