Arizona Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick announces 2016 Senate run
U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., announced Tuesday she will run for Senate in 2016.
PHOENIX — U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., announced Tuesday she will run for Senate in 2016.
“I’d be humbled to represent our state in the United States Senate,” she said in a release.
Kirkpatrick represents Arizona’s 1st District.
Kirkpatrick will likely face long-time incumbent Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. In her announcement video above, Kirkpatrick said she respects the senator’s tenure.

McCain may be challenged in the Republican race by Arizona State Sen. Kelli Ward, R-Lake Havasu City.
Kirkpatrick beat former Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin last year in a tight race. Hers was one of three seats heavily targeted by Republicans.
