Arizona ranked toward the bottom of hardest working states

PHOENIX — In a list of America’s hardest working states, WalletHub ranked Arizona No. 39 overall.

The financial ranking website used 10 indicators to compare the 50 states.

The indicators were broken into two main factors: Direct work and indirect work.

Direct work factors included employment rate and households where no adults work, among others. Indirect work factors were a bit simpler and their weighted total points weren’t nearly high as direct factors. Some indirect factors included average commute time and annual volunteer hours.

Arizona didn’t rank well in either factor, which is why the state was so low overall. The Grand Canyon State ranked No. 40 in direct work factors and No. 23 in indirect factors.

One of the more alarming facts from the study is Arizona’s employment rate ranking which was No. 46.

North Dakota received the No. 1 spot with Alaska, South Dakota, Texas and Nebraska filling out the rest of the top five.

West Virginia ranked last.
