Arizona Powerball player wins $1 million as jackpot grows to $1.25 billion

PHOENIX – An Arizona Powerball player won $1 million in Monday night’s drawing, but the second-biggest jackpot of the year went unclaimed.

The million-dollar ticket was purchased from the Cobblestone Auto Spa at the corner of Cave Creek Road and Tatum Boulevard in Cave Creek. It matched all five of the white numbers – 23, 35, 59, 63 and 68 – but missed the red Powerball of 2.

Powerball is a multistate game of chance with drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night. Entries cost $2 and can be purchased at over 3,000 retailers around Arizona.

Two Arizona Powerball players hit for $50,000

Two other Arizona Powerball tickets matched four white balls plus the red one to win $50,000 on Monday. They came from the Blue Ridge Market on State Route 69 in Dewey and the Last Stop Travel Center on US 93 in White Hills.

The jackpot for the next drawing on Wednesday will be an estimated $1.25 billion, the sixth largest in Powerball history.

The only larger jackpot this year was hit on Sept. 6, when two tickets from Missouri and Texas split a $1.8 billion top prize.
