Arizona officials waiving fishing licenses for public waters on Saturday

PHOENIX — People will not be required to have a license to fish in any public waters in Arizona on Saturday as part of Arizona’s Free Fishing Day, state officials said.

The event celebrates National Fishing and Boating Week.

A full list of public waters throughout the state, including the type of fish usually found in each, can be found online.

“Whether you’re a seasoned angler who wants to introduce a newcomer to the sport, or someone who’s always been interested but never took that next step, this is the perfect time to head out to your nearest community lake and experience what fishing in Arizona is all about,” Julie Carter, Arizona Game and Fish Department aquatic wildlife branch chief, said in a press release.

“Or take advantage of cooler weather by fishing a lake or stream in Arizona’s high country.”

All fishing regulations will remain in effect, according to the release, including daily bag limits.

A fishing license costs $37 for Arizona residents 18 years old and over, while those under 10 can fish for free throughout the year. A combination fishing/hunting license costs $5 for youths aged 10 to 17.
