PHONEIX — There’s no secret when it comes to summers in Arizona.

It’s hot.

And with the heat come the expenses associated with it, most notably the energy bill.

With the hot summer months among us, WalletHub ranked each state, including Washington, D.C., for their energy expenses.

The website broke the ranking down into four types of residential energy, taking electricity, natural gas, motor fuel and home heating oil into account.

While Arizona is one of the hottest places in the country, some may think the state fared better than expected, landing at No. 30 on the list with a total energy cost of $297 per month.

The state’s most expensive energy was electricity, coming in at an average of $143 dollars per month.

Its lowest energy type was home heating oil, which resulted in $0.

Arizona’s monthly motor fuel intake was on the high side as well, coming in at $137.

But shockingly, Arizona was not the worst when it came to energy expenses.

That title belongs to Connecticut, which landed at No. 1 overall for a total energy cost of $373, highlighted by a monthly electricity bill of $154. It also had one of the top home heating oil costs at $55.

On the other side of the ranking, Washington, D.C. held the lowest monthly energy total, averaging $204.

Looking at the other states, Alabama holds the highest monthly electricity bill at $170, while Maine is No. 1 in home heating oil ($79).

Wyoming had the largest motor fuel cost at $206 per month, and Alaska paced the monthly natural gas cost at $70.
