Arizona national parks offer day of free admission

PHOENIX — Arizona’s national parks will have free entrance on Saturday as part of National Public Lands Day.

There are plenty of options in Arizona: Saguaro National Park near Tucson and Petrified Forest National Park near Holbrook and, of course, the Grand Canyon.

“Bring your friends and family and hit as many parks as you can,” said Mike Litterst with the National Park Service.

Other free hot spots include Montezuma Castle near Camp Verde and Sunset Crater and Walnut Canyon near Flagstaff.

Litterst said while families are enjoying the parks, hundreds of volunteers will be on the job.

“Grand Canyon will have volunteers removing invasive vegetation and restoring wildlife habitat,” he said. “Pipe Spring National Monument is going to be refurbishing an old Kaibab Indian camp.”
