Arizona man dead after being swept away in Utah river currents

PHOENIX — An Arizona man died over the weekend after he presumably drowned in a Utah river, officials announced Wednesday.

A 50-year-old man from Kayenta was swept away by San Juan River currents at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area around 3 p.m. Sunday.

The victim, whose name was not released, was found dead after the Navajo Nation Police Department led a multiagency search and rescue effort.

“Our sympathies go to the family, friends and our local communities impacted by this loss,” Jake Ohlson, acting superintendent of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, said in a statement.
