Arizona man sentenced to 11 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter

PHOENIX — An Arizona man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after previously pleading guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Jarred Darnell Benally, 24, of Red Mesa, in October 2019 was driving under the influence of alcohol when a struck another vehicle at 95 mph, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, said in a press release.

The impact also caused the car he struck to collide with another vehicle.

Two people died from the collision, authorities said.

Benally and one of the two victims are enrolled as members of the Navajo Nation, authorities said.

Investigation of the case was conducted by Navajo Nation Criminal Investigations, with prosecution being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kiyoko Patterson, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
