Arizona Humane Society offering microchip discounts to keep pets safe this month

PHOENIX — The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) is offering discounted microchips for the month of June.

The animal welfare organization is offering a discount this month for pet owners to get their pets microchipped for only $10, down from the usual price of $25.

The AHS is offering the discount on microchips in an effort to protect pets ahead of the Fourth of July due to fireworks and holiday events, according to a Monday announcement.

“This is part of a push to help protect pets ahead of the Fourth of July when more pets go missing than any other time of the year due to the holiday, fireworks and people coming in and out of hosting events,” AHS spokesperson Kelsey Dickerson told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

What are the benefits for pet owners getting microchips for their pets?

A microchip procedure is a quick and painless injection for a pet that requires no recovery time, according to the AHS.

A microchip does not track the pets, but does provide identification when the animal is scanned.
