PHOENIX — An Arizona highway will be closed briefly during the upcoming week as a part of an improvement project renovation, according to a recent press release.

US 60, an Arizona highway that travels between Phoenix and Globe, Arizona, will experience four 90-minute closures between Tuesday and Thursday, Dec. 17.

A two-mile stretch of the highway, from Devil’s Canyon to Oak Flat, will be closed four times for up to 90 minutes.

  • Tuesday, Dec. 15: 9 to 10:30 a.m., 1 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 16: 9 to 10:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 17: 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The closures will allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to continue blasting work to build a new passing lane and widen roadway shoulders on the roadway east of Superior, according to the press release.

Eastbound US 60 will be stopped east on Superior, milepost 227, and westbound US 60 will be stoped at the Top of the World, milepost 235.

ADOT officials recommend drivers plan for extra time on the road or can seek alternative routes through state routes 77 and 177. Drivers heading to the White Mountains can take State Route 87 through Payson and travel east on State Route 260, according to the release.
