Arizona fraternity housing board president convicted of fraud, theft

PHOENIX — A man was convicted of five counts of fraud and one count of theft for schemes targeting a fraternity on the University of Arizona campus, Attorney General Kris Mayes announced Friday.

Michael Woolbright was charged on March 18 with stealing more than $500,000 from the Tucson Delta Chi Alumni Board. The Pima County Superior Court set the date of his sentencing for April 28.

Mayes in a press release said she is happy with the work her special investigation section did to dig up the “significant fraud and theft” committed by Woolbright.

“My office is committed to holding fraudsters accountable,” Mayes said in the release. “I’m glad to be able to deliver a sense of accountability and justice to the community Mr. Woolbright misled.”

How did the fraudster steal from the Tucson fraternity?

Investigation revealed Woolbright had “repeatedly” sent unauthorized checks and wire transfers under the guise of the Tucson Delta Chi Alumni Board. He also withheld the money moves from the Tucson fraternity board.

The trial prosecutor was Assistant Attorney General Matthew Ashton.
