Arizona educators choose new student-assessment test
The state Board of Education chose a student-assessment program from Washington to replace Arizona's beleaguered AIMS test.
PHOENIX — The state Board of Education chose a student-assessment program from Washington to replace Arizona’s beleaguered AIMS test.
The board announced Monday that students would begin taking Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching standardized test in the spring.
“Arizona must stop its testing obsession and get back to supporting real instruction and keeping good teachers in the classroom,” said Andrew Morrill, president of the Arizona Education Association in a statement.
The new reading and math test — AzMERIT — from the American Institutes for Research, is already in use in 14 states. The group’s website said besides written tests, “with little to no training, students can easily take AIR’s online tests.”
