The Arizona Department of Public Safety will resume the hiring of officers on June 29, the agency said in a press release.

The agency is hiring for posts in portions of rural Arizona. Cities include Page, Winslow, Quartzsite, Benson, Wilcox, Safford, Bisbee, Sierra Vista and Wikieup.

“We’re very thin in a lot of rural areas,” said Bart Graves with DPS.

According to DPS’ website, entry-level officers receive a salary of $38,335. The amount of salary increases with time spent in the agency.

DPS has not sworn a new officer in since 2008.

Graves said anyone with a military background is a big plus.

DPS will only be accepting about 400 applications for 40 open positions, according to Graves.

Interested applicants should go to DPS’ website for more information.
