Why did the Arizona Department of Safety launch social media accounts?
The Highway Patrol Division is responsible for the enforcement of impaired drivers, safety belt usage, dangerous driving violations, commercial vehicles, criminal traffic stops and managing traffic accidents.
By engaging on social media, the division seeks to amplify public communication, increase highway safety awareness and engage with communities across the state.
Followers can look out for information on road closures, major crashes, targeted enforcement measures and trooper spotlights.
Here are the social media handles for the department’s accounts:
- X (formerly Twitter): @AZDPSHwyPatrol
- Instagram: @azdps_highwaypatrol
- Facebook: AZDPSHighwayPatrol
Additionally, DPS’ social media presence will help promote statewide safety campaigns and share vital public service announcements.
“These new social media channels will allow us to inform and connect with the public in a more timely and meaningful way,” Highway Patrol Division Lt. Col. Daven Byrd said in the release. “From critical traffic alerts, to highlighting our traffic and criminal enforcement, we are excited to share a behind the scenes look at our operations and service to our communities.”
