Arizona Coyotes shop for kids in need

The Arizona Coyotes spent Thursday buying Christmas presents for children in need around the Valley.

Players visited stores like Toys R Us and the Gap to buy gifts for kids from Child Crisis Arizona and Southwest Human Development. Those children will be able to open up those presents on Christmas Day.

“If we can do one thing and get them a gift to open on Christmas morning that puts a smile on their face, then that’s a good feeling,” said Coyotes defenseman Michael Stone.

Goaltender Mike Smith picked up a few items as part of the shopping trip.

“One girl asked for some outdoor gifts to play with outside so we got her a ripstik,” Smith said. “Another kid asked for Paw Patrol.”

He said it is important as a professional athlete to give back to those in need.

“I think it’s important that we give back to those kids that can’t afford it or don’t have the money to go out and get toys for Christmas,” Smith said.
