Arizona couple rescued from Mexico after reported kidnapping

PHOENIX — An Arizona couple that was reportedly kidnapped and held for ransom in Mexico has been rescued by investigators.

News outlets reported Monday that the Tucson pair was rescued in Nogales, Mexico, and returned to the U.S. on Saturday.

The couple, who has not yet been identified and are aged 38 and 40, were reportedly kidnapped April 24.

Family members reported the kidnappers asked for a $15,000 ransom to secure their release.

The U.S. embassy in Mexico City alerted the Sonora Attorney General’s Office, which located the couple in a house about six miles from the U.S.-Mexico border.

Several armed men were guarding the pair, but they were eventually rescued by members of the attorney general’s investigative branch.

Mexican authorities have arrested two men on kidnapping charges who were only identified by their first names.
