Arizona copper thief sentenced to 5 years in prison, ordered to repay city he ripped off
An Arizona copper thief was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay more than $46,000 in restitution, authorities announced Monday.

PHOENIX – An Arizona copper thief was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay more than $46,000 in restitution, authorities announced Monday.
Robert Joseph Carrillo previously pleaded guilty to charges of theft and trafficking in stolen property, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
Carrillo was prosecuted for stealing and selling copper wiring from the Tucson streetlight system in September and October 2025.
The Arizona copper thief caused damage to underground infrastructure that required extensive repair work and created a safety hazard by disabling streetlights, prosecutors said.
When Carrillo received his prison sentence on March 24, he was ordered to repay the city $46,582.
