Border Patrol agents in southwest Arizona have seized nearly a ton of marijuana worth almost $1 million.

Border Patrol agents in southwest Arizona have seized nearly a ton of marijuana worth almost $1 million, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection report.

On Jan. 1, Border Patrol agents working near San Luis discovered two vehicles stuck in the sand just east of the Colorado River. Tire tracks indicated the vehicles entered the U.S. from Mexico.

One of the vehicles contained 117 wrapped bundles filled with a total of 1,841 pounds marijuana — a street value of $920,500.

On Friday, agents patrolling near County 19th Street and Avenue D in Yuma received notice of an ultralight aircraft near the agents’ location. Agents spotted the ultralight and observed it flying southbound toward Mexico.

Agents arrived to the area over which the aircraft was first seen hovering and discovered six scattered bundles of suspected narcotics that contained a estimated 131 pounds of marijuana worth $65,500.

Altogether, 1,972 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $986,000 were seized.

The marijuana was processed per Yuma Border Patrol Sector guidelines.
