Arizona border agents pull 2 migrants away from burning vehicle

PHOENIX — Border Patrol agents from Tucson pulled two migrants away from a burning vehicle last week following a human smuggling attempt, officials said.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Jan. 28 near State Route 92 and Coronado National Park when agents attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a press release.

The driver failed to yield and drove off the road into a wire fence, officials said, with the SUV catching fire and becoming engulfed in flames as it came to a stop.

Two people lying near the vehicle were pulled to safety, officials said, with four Mexicans, one Canadian and two U.S. citizens being encountered.

Nobody was injured in the incident and the seven people involved were taken into custody, officials said.
