Arizona airports to receive over $20M in grants, $10M for Sky Harbor

PHOENIX — Airports in Arizona will receive over $20 million in airport safety and infrastructure grants, $10 million of which will be going to Phoenix Sky Harbor, officials announced in a press release on Thursday.

The announcement is part of the $1.187 billion the Federal Aviation Administration is awarding to airports across the U.S.

Twelve Arizona airports will receive a total of $21,407,195 from the FAA.

Sky Harbor, the state’s largest airport and one of the busiest in the U.S., was granted over $10 million for apron reconstruction.

Eloy Municipal received the second-most funding in Arizona at just over $4 million for taxiway reconstruction.

Laughlin/Bullhead International and Payson were the only other airports to be given over $1 million.

The funds will be available for 100% of the eligible costs under the coronavirus relief bill, according to the release.

On April 14, a total of 59 Arizona airports were given $225 million from the federal coronavirus relief package, $148 million of which went to Sky Harbor.
