Area near Tiger Fire north of Phoenix warned of potential evacuation

PHOENIX – Residents near the Tiger Fire north of the Phoenix area were warned Thursday that more evacuations could be coming.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office changed the emergency notification status of Crown King from “READY” to “SET” at the request of the incident management team, and only residents are allowed in and out of the town.

Horsethief Basin remains under the “GO” evacuation order issued Sunday morning.

Lightning sparked the Tiger Fire northwest of Black Canyon City on June 30.

It had consumed 13,175 acres, with containment jumping to 29%, as of Thursday morning. The measurement was 12,133 acres with no containment the previous day.

More than 360 personnel have been assigned to battle the fire.

Crown Creek Road (County Road 59) was closed Wednesday between Crown King and Cleator except for firefighters and residents with identification.

All forest service roads into Crown King are also closed.
