A woman was arrested Thursday night for allegedly stealing an ambulance in Phoenix, driving it while impaired and crashing, authorities said.
Grace Marie Vicente, 24, was booked into jail on counts of DUI and vehicle theft, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Authorities initially reported that the ambulance was parked near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road with the keys inside while on a service call.
Police later said the vehicle was not on a call but was there to be available if needed during a concert at the nearby Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre.
The ambulance was running when Vicente allegedly climbed in and drove off, police said.
Shortly after the theft, the ambulance crashed into another vehicle. Officers responded to the scene, found Vicente and took her into custody.
“Officers observed signs of impairment, and she was later booked for DUI and theft of means of transportation,” Sgt. Sheree Lee said in a media advisory.
The driver of the other vehicle was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
