Trump taps former Arizona attorney general as US representative to Serbia

PHOENIX — President Donald Trump announced on Friday he chose former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich to be the next U.S. ambassador to Serbia.

“Mark is a proud veteran of the Army National Guard,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “As the son of refugees who fled communism, Mark will be a strong advocate for freedom.”

Brnovich, a Republican who was born in Detroit to Serbian parents, told The Serbian Times back in 2022 that he’s proud of his heritage and embraces it.

He said he and his wife, federal Judge Susan Brnovich, have embraced his roots and that they try to visit Serbia as often as they can.

The interview took place when he was running to be a U.S. senator in the Republican primary. However, he lost the GOP nomination to Blake Masters, who later lost to Democrat Mark Kelly in the general election.

Brnovich has not yet commented on his new position.

The previous ambassador to Serbia was Christopher Robert Hill.
