Allegiant begins nonstop route between Mesa Gateway, Pittsburgh

PHOENIX – Low-cost carrier Allegiant Air launched nonstop service Thursday from metro Phoenix to Pittsburgh, the city of bridges.

The flight in and out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to the Pennsylvania city will operate twice a week, the airline said.

“The Phoenix-Mesa area is a popular destination for our customers,” Drew Wells, a senior vice president for Allegiant, said in a press release.

The Las Vegas-based airline recently added seven routes to its Gateway lineup, including tourist destination Orange County, California. Service to John Wayne Airport begins Nov. 19.

The area is home to theme parks Disneyland and Knots Berry Farm, Mission San Juan Capistrano and beaches.

Gateway Airport also brought back low-cost Canadian airline Flair Airlines to the Valley. Flights to Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver will start at the East Valley facility Oct. 31.
