PHOENIX – Trader Joe’s has stores in seven Phoenix-area cities. One West Valley suburb wants to become No. 8.
After a retail survey identified the specialty grocery chain as residents’ most-wanted new business, Goodyear launched a two-week “We Want Trader Joe’s” campaign over the weekend.
“We truly believe that the support and excitement of our residents plays a big role in whether a new business decides to come to our city,” Tammy Vo, Goodyear digital communications director, said in a press release. “We know that our residents would rally around Trader Joe’s if and when they decide to come to Goodyear.”
Plans for the campaign include a series of posts by the city’s official Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts as well as billboards on Interstate 10.
Please don't let this guy be the only "Trader Joe" in #Goodyear!
Goodyear residents told us they want a #TraderJoes. We listened. That's why we just launched our "We Want Trader Joe's" campaign. DETAILS: https://t.co/ywjRwRPKZt#JoesInGoodyear pic.twitter.com/zyEKzq8AaQ

The first post of the campaign features a humorous video with the city’s only “Trader Joe,” a shady huckster selling “Fifty-Cent Chuck” wine and other sketchy knock-off items out of his car’s trunk.
Goodyear also invited residents to attend “We Want Trader Joe’s Day” from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the new Circle K at Pebble Creek Parkway and McDowell Road.
Mayor Georgia Lord will read a proclamation at 8:45 a.m. at the event, and residents will have the opportunity to submit requests to Trader Joe’s online.
Attendees can also get their hands on ornaments and tote bags that declare “All I Want for Christmas is … Trader Joe’s!”
As it stands, Goodyear residents have to drive about 30 minutes to get their Trader Joe’s fix at stores in Surprise and Glendale.
The California-based chain’s other Valley locates are in Gilbert, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix.
