Arizona Humane Society helps dog with burned paws find forever home

PHOENIX – Yoru, a 1-year-old German Shepherd, was adopted from the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) after being treated for burned paws earlier this month. 

The 1-year-old dog originally came to the AHS as a stray after he was brought to the facility with burned paw pads.

AHS’ Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital also determined Yoru was “a bit underweight” but said he was in otherwise good condition.

After treatment that consisted of regular bandage changes and medications, Yoru was ready for adoption and found a new home in Phoenix.

AHS wants to remind the public to take the necessary precautions while caring for their pets during the warmer months.

AHS said its emergency animal medical technicians and animal cruelty investigators respond to hundreds of calls of animals in heat distress each year.

Many of these cases come from pets being left outside with no water or no shelter, being tethered or locked in a hot vehicle, AHS said.

AHS also provided the following tips to help owners care for their pets during hot weather:

• Check the ground with the back of your hand. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.
• Limit outdoor exercise to very early morning or late evening.
• Avoid long walks, hikes and excessive outdoor play.
• Provide pets with plenty of cool water sources.
• Consider dog booties for hot pavement.
