PHOENIX – A West Valley high school was locked down Monday because of unspecified potential threats before students were released early, authorities said.

La Joya Community High School was locked down for several hours while the threats were investigated, according to the Avondale Police Department.

Around 1:20 p.m., police said the lockdown had been lifted and students had been released.

There was no information provided about the nature of the threats toward the school near Avondale Boulevard and Buckeye Road.

The initial police tweet about the lockdown called said it was being done out of “precaution.”

Neither the school nor its district – the Tolleson Union High School District – released any information about the situation on its website or social media accounts.

About an hour after the lockdown was lifted, police said the threats came via social media and no weapons were found on campus.

According to the La Joy Community website, more than 2,300 students attend the school.
