5 Arizona shelters waiving hundreds in adoption fees this National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day

PHOENIX — Adoption fees can be a barrier for people hoping to welcome a new pet into their homes, but one company is working to remove that obstacle this week in honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.

On Thursday, adoption fees will be covered — up to $250 per adoption — at five Arizona shelters: the Arizona Humane Society, Incredibull Stella, Whisker Outpost, AZ Husky Rescue and Eclecteri.

Dogs, cats and even reptiles will be available for adoption, according to Carvana, which is covering the costs.

However, at the Arizona Humane Society, the fee coverage applies specifically to adult cats, which the organization has identified as its most urgent need.

How the National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day deal will work

The promotion covers up to $250 in standard adoption fees at each shelter. Any costs beyond that amount are not included.

In many cases, adoption fees already include services such as spay or neuter surgery, microchipping and vaccinations, though offerings vary by organization.

For example, adoptions through Incredibull Stella include spay or neuter services, microchipping and one mandatory training session for each dog.

The promotion is available for one day only during each shelter’s regular business hours. Adoptions are first-come, first-served with no limit per household, beyond shelter discretion. Fees will be waived at the time of adoption.
