Abrazo microhospital construction underway in Mesa

PHOENIX — Abrazo Community Health Network began construction on a microhospital in Mesa on Thursday.

The 32,500-square-foot building is expected to open spring 2019.

As the name implies, microhospitals are small-scale hospitals that provide broader care than an urgent room, according to Becker’s Hospital Review.

The Abrazo Mesa will include 12 emergency beds and eight inpatient rooms, according to a news release.

In addition, it will offer surgery, diagnostic imaging and pharmacy services.

“Our goal is providing an integrated system of care closer to home for those who choose Abrazo Community Health Network for their care,” said Abrazo Market CEO Frank Molinaro in a statement.

The hospital is expected to create about 50 clinical and support staff jobs.

There are currently five Abrazo-operated hospitals in the Phoenix area.

In December 2017, Abrazo shut down a Maryvale location. At the end of February, the Maricopa County Special Health Care District announced it would buy the campus.
