PHOENIX — After the deaths of nine children, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling about 5 million above-ground pools, some of which were manufactured by a company based in Chandler.

This recall is for 48-inch and taller above-ground pools that use compression straps.

The pools were manufactured by Chandler-based Bestway, China-based Bestway International, Intex Recreation and Polygroup North America.

The CPSC said that children have been able to climb into the pool using the compression strap as a step, which has led to the deaths of nine children between the ages of 22 months and 3 years.

The deaths happened between 2007 and 2022. All of them occurred outside of Arizona.

What pool models are part of this recall?

The recall applies specifically to these Bestway and Coleman models sold between 2008 and 2024:

  • Power Steel
  • Steel Pro
  • Coleman Power Steel

It also applies to Intex metal frame pools and ultra-frame pools that were sold between 2002 and 2012 and the Intex Prism Frame pools and Ultra XTR Frame poll, which was only sold at Intexcorp.com and Walmart between 2024 and 2025.

Several Polygroup pools that were sold between 2006 and 2025 were also recalled. Here’s a list of those models and when they were sold.

  • Summer Waves (sold between 2015 and 2025)
  • Summer Escapes (sold between 2006 and 2015)
  • Funsicle (sold between 2023 and 2025)
  • Sand n Sun (sold between 2008 and 2011)
  • Blue Wave (sold between 2014 and 2025)

The pools have been sold nationwide at stores including Walmart, Target, Sears, Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, Home Depot and Costco. They have also been sold online on Amazon, Wayfair and the manufacturers’ websites.

To request a repair kit, contact Bestway, Intex or Polygroup and make sure that the pool cannot be accessed until the issue is fixed.

9 fatalities over 15 years. Time to recall all the cars because there are way more fatalities on the roads every year.
