PHOENIX – A new AARP-sponsored outdoor fitness park with exercise equipment and space for group programs opened this week in Phoenix.

The AARP FitLot was unveiled Tuesday at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex on 25th Avenue south of Peoria Avenue.

“I want Phoenix to be a community that embraces and celebrates every stage of life,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said at the opening, according to a press release.

“Part of this is providing opportunities to a diverse population to improve their health and well-being. This fitness park meets that goal and provides a community gathering spot for people of all ages and backgrounds.”

AARP, a noprofit organization for people 50 and older, aims to open at least one FitLot park in every state.

FitLot is a nonprofit that plans and builds fitness parks and provides programming for them.

The parks’ equipment is designed to accommodate people with a wide range of fitness levels and abilities.

“I want to see a vibrant and livable Phoenix,” AARP Arizona Director Dana Marie Kennedy said. “Unless we are able to provide families with the tools they need for healthy eating and active living, a community will not be a livable community.”

“This park is open to the public and we hope the community enjoys it.”
