PHOENIX — A 9-year-old girl has been pronounced dead hours after she was seriously injured in a car crash on a west Phoenix street on Monday.

According to Sgt. Vince Lewis, the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital around 3 p.m. A second child, a 7-year-old boy, was still in critical condition following the crash.

The two children were driving in an SUV with a 32-year-old woman, when the car collided with a dump truck in the intersection at 51st Avenue and Broadway Road just after 7 a.m.

The children were immediately rushed to Phoenix Children’s Hospital in critical condition. The woman was taken to Phoenix Banner University Medical Center. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

The truck driver was uninjured and remained on the scene. Lewis said the driver showed no signs of impairment.

The crash site area was closed to further traffic.
