68-year-old woman dies while boating on Colorado River in Grand Canyon

A 68-year-old woman died Thursday following a boating accident on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.

PHOENIX — A 68-year-old woman died Thursday following a boating accident on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.

Mary Kelley of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, was pulled out of the water near the Hance Rapid at about 11:15 a.m., according to a press release from the National Park Service.

Members of Kelley’s group attempted life-saving measures, but she was unresponsive.

Park rangers also attempted resuscitation efforts, but were unsuccessful.

Kelley was on the ninth day of a private boating trip.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by NPS and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.

No other information was available.
