PHOENIX — A 67-year-old Texas man died Tuesday after he was found unresponsive on a Grand Canyon National Park trail, officials said.
Nearby hikers alerted park officials and initiated CPR, but their efforts and those of medical personnel failed to resuscitate the man.
The man, whose name was not released, was reportedly trying to get to the Colorado River to stay a night at Phantom Ranch. He reached Skeleton Point before heading back up South Kaibab Trail. The incident occurred while on his way back.
Why Grand Canyon hiking can be dangerous during summer heat
Officials are warning Grand Canyon National Park visitors that temperatures on exposed trails can reach 120 degrees during the summer.
It can be especially treacherous to hike the inner canyon between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when temperatures are high.
Visitors should read the Key Hiking Messages webpage for the latest information on inner canyon conditions as well as safety tips.
A 74-year-old hiker from Washington died in May while attempting a rim-to-rim trek at the national park.

Hmm the Force wasn’t strong with this one. Mother Nature is very cruel to those who don’t know or respect her.
