6 injured after light rail collides with car in downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX — Six people were injured when a light rail car was knocked off the tracks Sunday evening after colliding with a car near 11th and Washington streets in downtown Phoenix, according to authorities.

A medium-sized vehicle crossed the track lines and collided with the light rail car, derailing it, authorities said.

Six adults were transported to the hospital for minor injuries and further evaluation.

The incident resulted in the closure of light rail service stations between 38th and Washington streets and Roosevelt Street and Central Avenue, according to Valley Metro.

A bus was deployed to transport riders between these two stations, with trains experiencing 15 to 20-minute delays.
