6 people in critical condition after Phoenix house fire fought by multiple city fire departments

Six people were rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a house fire in Phoenix on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters from multiple cities responded to a first-alarm fire at a residence near Encanto Boulevard and 39th Avenue around 11 a.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames that spread to a second house. Firefighters also received reports of multiple people trapped inside.

As firefighters fought the fire at the first home, they found and rescued two women, two men and a female teenager from the fire. All were taken to a hospital in critical condition, with one of the women in “extremely critical condition,” Phoenix Fire said.

Additional fire crews were sent to fight the second fire and pulled a man from the fire with injuries. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Crews had the blaze under control by noon, Phoenix Fire said. No firefighters were injured in the fire.

Investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
