3 people injured in fire at strip mall in Glendale

PHOENIX — Three people were injured in a Glendale strip mall fire on Thursday evening, authorities said.

The fire occurred just after 6 p.m. at the shopping center near 66th Avenue and Camelback Road, the Glendale Fire Department said in a press release.

People told authorities they heard a loud explosion and saw black smoke on the northeast of the building.

Two women and a man were treated for lacerations from the store windows when it exploded, authorities said. The woman was transported to the hospital, while the other two people hurt were treated on scene.

It took firefighters over an hour to gain control of the fire, which authorities said was being driven by heavy gusts of wind.

The strip mall was saved but four small businesses were affected, authorities said.

No firefighters were injured in the blaze.

The explosion and fire are under investigation.
