2-year-old boy in extremely critical condition after Phoenix pool incident

PHOENIX – A 2-year-old boy was transported to a hospital in extremely critical condition Tuesday afternoon after being found submerged in a residential pool in west Phoenix, authorities said.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Danny Gile said in an email that the boy wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a heartbeat when family members pulled him from the pool near Indian School Road and 59th Avenue and administered CPR.

Phoenix Fire responders performed advanced life support procedures and transported him to a nearby hospital.

Authorities said fire crews got the boy’s heartbeat back and he was stabilized upon arrival at the hospital, but remains in extremely critical condition.

No other information was immediately available.

Gile said the Phoenix Police Department will conduct an investigation.

It was the second Phoenix-area drowning incident involving a young child in less than 24 hours.

On Tuesday morning, a 3-year-old girl died in a hospital after being pulled from a pool in Peoria the night before.
