2 men arrested in connection with south Phoenix house party shooting that left 1 injured

Two men are accused of participating in a shooting at a south Phoenix house party that left one person injured, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department identified 36-year-old Adrian Galindo-Ortiz and 18-year-old Roberto Ortiz as the men taken into custody.

Galindo-Ortiz faces charges of aggravated assault, assault, discharging a firearm at a residence and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Meanwhile, Ortiz faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful flight from law enforcement, discharging a firearm at a residence and discharging a firearm within city limits.

How did authorities connect them to the south Phoenix house party shooting?

On Sunday, officers responded around 3 a.m. to multiple reports of a shooting at a home near 27th Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.

He was taken to a nearby hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department in life-threatening condition. However, he was stable as of Monday afternoon.

During the investigation, detectives determined that Galindo-Ortiz had been kicked out the party earlier in the night due to him being intoxicated and disruptive.

He then proceeded to gather Ortiz, who was identified as his cousin, and three others to return and confront the people who kicked him out.

Once they arrived back at the residence, Ortiz fired multiple shots into the air as well as the home, which is when authorities said he struck the victim.

The officers who responded to the shooting saw a vehicle fleeing the area and pursued it before pulling it over shortly after. Ortiz, who was driving, and the three other men inside were all detained.

Meanwhile, police learned that Galindo-Ortiz had fled on foot and he was later stopped by an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper while on his way toward the southern Arizona border.
