2 drivers suspected of impairment injured in early morning Avondale crash

Two people suspected of impairment were injured in a severe crash in Avondale early Sunday morning that caused a temporary road closure, authorities said.

The collision occurred near Dysart Road and Encanto Boulevard and left both drivers with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Avondale Police Department. One driver was not taken to a hospital.

Officers responded at 3:27 a.m. to the scene and had to pull one driver out of their vehicle before transporting them to a nearby hospital for treatment. The other driver was not hospitalized.

A passenger in one of the cars suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

Southbound Dysart Road was restricted for traffic while police investigated the area, but reopened afterwards.

Police said their early investigations revealed that the driver of an SUV was traveling northbound on Dysart Road before making “an unsafe left turn” onto westbound Encanto Boulevard.

The SUV then collided with the other vehicle which was headed south. The vehicle that was hit proceeded to strike a residential wall and an HOA sign.

The drivers involved in this collision will be processed before any charges are made.
