Investigation underway after 2 dogs found dead in Scottsdale house fire

Authorities are investigating a first alarm house fire in Scottsdale that left two dogs dead on Sunday evening.

Crews with the Scottdale, Tempe and Phoenix fire departments were called to a working house fire near Scottsdale and Thomas roads around 5:09 p.m.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they found a single-story residence that was heavily involved with fire. Crews immediately began an aggressive interior attack and searched for occupants, finding two dogs dead inside.

Fire conditions intensified causing officials in charge to switch to a defensive strategy and request a first alarm assignment, which brought a total of 56 firefighters to fight the blaze.

Crews were able to gain control of the house fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring homes.

There were two Scottsdale firefighters treated by paramedics for heat exhaustion and taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, but were in stable condition.

Officials said the fire’s cause is under investigation and the scene remains active.
