There are plenty of lists out there revealing the best cities to live with children. But what about those who don’t have kids, their children are grown or are entering retirement?

Rent.com compiled a list of the 10 best cities in the U.S. for empty nesters based on affordability, low crime rates and abundance of activities.

Scottsdale came in at No. 4, boasting sunny skies and green golf courses. Spring training, casinos and hiking are just a few of the activities Rent.com highlighted.

Its low crime rate and high volume of residents over 50 make Scottsdale a prime destination for retirees.

Chandler sits at the very end of the top 10. Its close proximity to Phoenix gives it a nice balance between access to city life and ability to get away from it all.

Rent.com lists Chandler’s numerous parks, town festivals (such as Jazz Festival, Cinco de Mayo Celebration and a Tumbleweed Festival), low cost of living and of course weather as the town’s finest features.

Nine of the list’s 10 cities are out west, with No. 8 Manchester, N.H. being the only city east of Colorado.

The No. 1 city on the list is Fremont, Calif., located in the southeast section of the San Francisco Bay Area.
