11-year-old in critical condition following drowning

PHOENIX – An 11-year-old boy was transferred to a local hospital in critical condition after a drowning Sunday.

The boy, who has special needs, was found underwater in the bathtub in a home in Cave Creek near 49th Street and Tatum Boulevard.

CPR was started before the Phoenix Fire Department arrived.

The patient spit up water and began breathing on his own.

Crews assessed the child and transported him to the hospital for further evaluation.
