$1 million Powerball ticket sold in Mesa, 3 others in Arizona get $50K

PHOENIX – Waking up to a million-dollar windfall is better than a cup of coffee any day, and someone in Arizona might be doing just that Thursday as a Powerball winner.

A ticket worth $1 million was sold at a Circle K in Mesa, according to state lottery spokesman John Gilliland.

Three other winners in the state will get their hands on $50,000 apiece.

Seven tickets matched all five white balls, but missed matching the red Powerball in Wednesday’s drawing.

The winning numbers were white balls 16, 20, 37, 44, 62, plus Powerball 12, and Power Play multiplier 3X.

The winner bought the ticket at a convenience store at Main Street and Val Vista Drive.

The other winners in the state picked up their tickets at a Speedsmart near Brown and Gilbert roads in Mesa; a Bashas’ in Sun Lakes at Riggs and Alma School roads; and a Fast Market in Tucson near La Canada Drive and River Road.

The big jackpot winner, who matched all six numbers and bought the ticket in Wisconsin, struck it rich to the tune of about $768 million.

The ticket, worth a cash option of $477 million, was sold in New Berlin, a city of about 40,000 people roughly 14 miles southwest of Milwaukee.

The Phoenix area has been pulling in good luck lately.

Last weekend, someone bought a $150,000 winner in Marciopa, just south of the Valley.

For the next drawing on Saturday, March 30, the Powerball jackpot resets to a guaranteed $40 million; $24.8 million cash value.
