$1 million lottery ticket sold in Scottsdale will expire if not claimed by Thursday

PHOENIX – Time is almost up for the unknown person who bought a Powerball lottery ticket worth $1 million in Scottsdale this summer to cash in on the prize.

The potentially golden ticket will expire if nobody brings it to the Arizona Lottery office at 4740 E. University Drive in Phoenix by 5 p.m. Thursday.

The winning entry was purchased at the Circle K at Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard on May 21.

It matched five numbers in the May 22 drawing — 3, 19, 27, 37 and 40 – missing only the red Powerball of 8, which would have boosted the jackpot to $218 million.

Tickets expire 180 days after drawings take place.

“When a player wins big, other players are inspired to play and that results in more funds for a variety of vital programs and services across Arizona,” Gregg Edgar, Arizona Lottery executive director, said in a press release.

“So we encourage you all to check your tickets and look around your house before it’s too late. Who knows, this big winner might be you.”

As of Tuesday morning, the Arizona Lottery website showed five other unclaimed Powerball and Mega Millions prizes ranging from $10,000 to $50,000, but none of them expire until early next year.
